Eric, Class of 2009

Eric spent the 2nd semester of his 3rd year studying abroad at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Below, he gives advice about adapting to life on-campus and shares his thoughts about what he learned from his experience.

On adapting to American classes:

It depends on the person, but to me, I found it rather easy to adapt. The beginning of the semester is the most important. Make sure you are aware of your surroundings because there is so much to do and so much offered. Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in clubs or challenges. Make sure to go see the career planner and do participate in Mock interviews and apply along with the local students to internships if you desire.

Regarding classes, take the ones that you value the most. Do not be afraid by the difficulty. If you work hard, you will do well. Don’t forget, you can attend classes as a visitor. That means you do not have to limit yourself. Just make sure that you get a good grade as it will bring you credibility to US employers. As for group projects, make sure you are with American students. Go in a good group as group projects account for a big proportion of your grade.

On living in a residence on-campus:

It’s nice being with international students and Americans. It was a building full of students, so it was very easy to meet up with others.

On what he gained personally from his Study Abroad experience:

You learn so much from studying abroad. You get to meet great people and you realize that what you have learned at the MBA Institute is far from being bad. You have the same level as them if you have worked seriously during the first two years. You will get to meet great professors as well. The campus at Emory University is beautiful and worth seeing. Having a balance of classes, sports and associations is key. Do study hard if you plan to go to Emory because having a bad grade will not look good if you want to get an MBA in the future. It was overall a great experience that I would recommend to everyone, especially if you can do a great internship afterwards.
